Senior Buyer - Procurement
Full-Time, Permanent

Title: Senior Buyer Procurement

Reports to: Purchasing and Inventory Control Manager

Based at: Mucci International Marketing Inc., Kingsville, Ontario 

Type of Employment: Full time, permanent 5 days a week which includes, extended hours depending on workload and priorities, which will include some Saturdays. For internal purposes this role will be called a Lead Buyer.

Responsibilities Include: 

  • Develop and maintain strategic sourcing documents and acquire in-depth subject matter expertise and market intelligence for category
  • Independently and confidently coordinate highly complex multi-functional strategies
  • Source and establish relationships with suppliers who deliver top-quality products and services at competitive prices, while upholding the highest ethical standards and conduct
  • Identify problems and find creative solutions to meet customer demands
  • Track, monitor and maintain purchase order deliveries to drive on-time delivery to schedules. Expedite Purchase Orders as required to meet stakeholder requirements and timelines
  • Oversee Direct and Indirect Spend categories including Corrugate, Resin, Labels, MRO, Services, and Capex supplies
  • Assess supplier bids using effective negotiation and procurement strategies to ensure optimal quality, pricing, delivery, and service
  • Develop, implement, and oversee purchasing reporting systems (KPIs) to align with company needs
  • Source and establish relationships with suppliers who deliver top-quality products and services at competitive prices, while upholding the highest ethical standards and conduct
  • Perform on-going reviews of product, service, equipment, and expense usage to identify new opportunities for cost savings

  • Provide regular updates to the Purchasing and Inventory Manager on current and potential inventory issues, accurately track all open purchase orders, and prepare reports on market conditions and organizational spending
  • Analyze inventories to enhance flow, reduce waste, and establish appropriate min/max levels.

  • Work with cross-functional teams and assist the Inventory Control team with maintaining proper inventory levels

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary business diploma or degree or related field is preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in a Purchasing/Buyer role is required
  • Previous experience coaching and mentoring junior buyers would be an asset
  • Previous experience in the food industry is highly desirable
  • Previous experience purchasing packaging is preferred
  • Proven ability to negotiate with vendors and suppliers
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Windows and ERP software
  • Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with staff and Grower members to ensure the daily supplies of all packaging related materials

Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Examine contents and compare with records, such as manifests, invoices, or orders, to verify accuracy of incoming or outgoing shipment.
  • Confer and correspond with establishment representatives to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages, and nonconformance to specifications.
  • Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, and damages and discrepancies, for reporting, accounting, and record keeping purposes.
  • Ensure FIFO stock rotation within our facility and coolers.
  • Loads and unloads materials to and from designated storage areas, or vehicles.
  • Stacks or piles materials, pallets, etc.
  • Bundles and bands with material banding machines.
  • Sorts and stores items according to specifications.
  • Attaches identifying tags or marks information on containers.
  • Ensures/maintains a clean work area, using brooms, rags, and cleaning compounds.
  • Installs protective devices, such as bracing, padding or strapping, to prevent shifting or damage to items being transported.
  • Record any maintenance required for equipment for safety and to mimize risks.
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled.
  • Follows work orders or receives and listens to oral instructions to determine work assignment.
  • Completes daily fork lift inspection for safety and to minimize risks.

Customs Clearance Agent - Midnights | Canada

Title: Customs Clearance Agent

Reports to: Customs Manager

Based at: Mucci Pac Ltd., Kingsville, ON

Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Aware of export and import restrictions, tariff systems and other custom related matters.
  • Elaborate import-export forms and documents on behalf of Mucci International following customs procedures, laws and regulations.
  • Verifying and processing customs documentation for immediate release.
  • Ensure all commercial invoices, and other customs documentation related to the timely and accurate movement of produce shipments into the USA is completed.
  • Sign certificate of origin for commodities such as Peppers/Tomatoes on behalf of Mucci International.
  • Ensure all commercial invoices, and other customs documentation related to the shipping of samples and dry goods into the USA and into Canada is completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Organize and monitor transportation of imported goods.
  • Process ACE and ACI manifest for outbound and inbound shipments.
  • Communicate priority updates on shipments internally to staff
  • Communicate FDA updates internally to staff.
  • Control and document trailer seal distribution.
  • Process internal pick tickets upon completion by shippers.
  • Process C-TPAT documentation
  • Verify and calculate duty and tax rates on commodities for Mucci clearances.
  • Provide drivers with B.O.L., permits, origin sheets, seals, bio terrorism (where applicable), and customs paper work; all pertaining to what they are carrying.
  • Could represent Mucci on dealings with government officials.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Minimum High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of customs experience.
  • Experience with truck freight.
  • Strong knowledge of the customs tariff, regulations, and customs act.
  • Must be familiar with freight forwarding, TMS, LTL and cross border logistics.
  • Recognize and address problems and issues.
  • Recognize other government agency involvement, and distribute documents accordingly, such as TSCA, FDA, EPA, Textile declarations, etc.
  • Recognize and apply duty reduction programs such as NAFTA or GSP.
  • CCS designation or enrolled in an asset.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
